6th Community of Practice in Italy: Governance and integration of ecosystem evidence for stronger public–private synergies
The sixth Italian Community of Practice (CoP) meeting took place on 22 June 2026, organised by SELINA partners from the University of Trento. Building on the previous meeting, the discussion focused on how ecosystem evidence can support collaboration between public and private actors in environmental decision-making.
The meeting featured two presentations by SELINA project partners: ‘The experience of the City of Trento in developing its Urban Greening Plan (UGP)’ by the Municipality of Trento, and the ‘SWITCH Masterplan, a public–private initiative for climate adaptation in agricultural landscapes’ by SEAcoop.
A presentation on the ‘National guidelines for Urban Nature Plans’ by representatives of Politecnico di Milano was also featured during the session.
Participants reflected on the opportunities and challenges of integrating ecosystem evidence into decision-making. Long-term scientific research and research organisations were recognised as essential for continuity and technical expertise. The discussion also emphasised the need for practical, scalable tools.
The final discussion focused on how public–private collaboration can be maintained beyond the lifetime of European projects. Research organisations were recognised as important long-term partners, while intermediary bodies such as food districts and local action groups were identified as key actors in coordinating stakeholders and supporting collaboration in areas with limited administrative capacity.
With this second meeting on ‘Governance and integration of ecosystem evidence’, the Italian CoP concluded its focus on public–private synergies.
Future Community of Practice meetings will continue to foster dialogue and the exchange of experiences on the use of ecosystem evidence in environmental planning and decision-making.
