ESP 2026 training to support better ecosystem service assessments
A training session on “Commissioning and designing ecosystem service assessments that matter” will take place on 18 May 2026 at the Karolinum in the Old Town of Prague, as part of ESP 2026.
The session, organised by the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), will support decision-makers with a practical tool to better communicate their needs and commission fit-for-purpose ES assessments. Participants will learn how to structure Terms of Reference (ToR) for tenders, improving clarity and uptake in planning and management.
The training is intended for commissioners, practitioners, public and private sector professionals, and students working with or interested in applied ES assessments.
Through an interactive format, the attendees will step into the role of a commissioner and work on key elements such as framing, methodology, and evaluation criteria.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to design clearer ToRs, better understand commissioner–contractor roles, and address key challenges in ecosystem service assessments.
