Multi-lateral Communities of Practice Webinar: Green Infrastructure in EU countries

On 4 December 2025, a multi-lateral CoP webinar on ‘Green Infrastructure in various EU countries and its potential relation to the Nature Restoration Regulation’ was jointly arranged by SELINA partners from Sweden, Spain and France, led by Sweden.

It was organised as a joint webinar between SELINA and REPLAN, encouraging cross-project exchange and discussion among researchers, practitioners and policy representatives from multiple countries.

The theme was suggested by the CoP participants, who showed interest in knowing more about how green infrastructure is implemented in different EU countries, both for biodiversity and for ecosystem services, including the goals and methods applied and how integration into planning is approached.

Participants were also interested in understanding the potential relationship between green infrastructure and the Nature Restoration Regulation.

The programme included a welcome and introduction to SELINA and REPLAN by Ulla Mörtberg, followed by presentations from Philip Roche (INRAE) on ‘Green infrastructure implementation across different European countries’, Klara Tullback Rosenström (CAB) on ‘Green infrastructure in Sweden’ and Manuel Oñorbe Esparraguera (MITECO) on ‘Green infrastructure in Spain’.

The session concluded with a discussion on key challenges and opportunities, and a wrap-up on ways forward.

The meeting’s main objectives were to exchange experiences and insights on the implementation of green infrastructure in different countries and scales, and understand the challenges in implementing green infrastructure in policy and planning, and potentially harmonising it with the Nature Restoration Regulation.
