SELINA ecosystem services research shared with rural development stakeholders in Slovenia

On 27 May 2026, a presentation on the ecosystem services concept and the SELINA project was held in Škofja Loka, Slovenia, for rural development stakeholders from the Gorenjska region.

The presentation introduced some of SELINA’s goals, part of which were current research activities in Slovenia, selected project outputs, including the Slovenian Community of Practice, the Terms of Reference web tool,  the assessment of carbon sequestration at the Triglav National Park test site and selected published research. It also explored how ecosystem services assessments can inform rural development, land management, biodiversity preservation and local decision-making.

Practical examples and visual materials were used to demonstrate the relevance of ecosystem services knowledge to rural development and planning. The discussion showed interest in its practical use, while also highlighting that the concept is understood in different ways among stakeholders with diverse professional backgrounds.

The activity helped bring SELINA results directly to regional and local practitioners and increase awareness of their potential relevance to rural sustainable development. Participants were also invited to join the Slovenian Community of Practice, providing an opportunity for continued exchange beyond the presentation.
