SELINA at the National Earth Observation Conference 2026
SELINA was present at Terra em Foco 2026, the National Earth Observation Conference, held on 17-18 March 2026 in Coimbra, Portugal. Organised by the Portuguese Space Agency, this biennial event brings together the community to exchange knowledge and showcase developments in space, remote sensing and geospatial information.
SELINA was featured through a presentation titled “Enhancing the spatial and temporal resolution of ecosystem accounts using satellite data”, authored by partners from the University of the Azores, University of Patras, SarVision, VITO, Space4Environment and presented by Filipe Bernardo from the University of the Azores.
The presentation showcased how satellite data can enhance the temporal resolution of ecosystem accounts, illustrated through the São Miguel Island test site, and how this approach can support more detailed and timely ecosystem assessments when combined with local knowledge.
The work highlighted improvements in ecosystem mapping, the development of condition indicators, and new approaches to understanding ecosystem changes and carbon dynamics, and it provided an excellent platform to demonstrate how innovative Earth Observation approaches can strengthen ecosystem assessments, particularly in complex island environments such as the Azores.
